The Great Yamuna Cover-Up: What the Government Didn’t Want Us to See
The Fact: Our ground report from the Kalindi Kunj ghat in New Delhi exposes how months after the Chhath Puja and the Bihar election, the holy river Yamuna is back to one of its worst phases. The foam that covers the river entirely on the ghat is now thicker, tinged pink, with no visible patches of water.
The Context: In our ground report from four months ago, we showed how the Delhi government was spraying chemicals to temporarily suppress the foam, especially in the run-up to Chhath Puja and the Bihar elections. But now that the public attention has shifted, the spraying has stopped, and the toxic foam is back.
The Peek Insight: The Yamuna has been polluted for decades, and no single government can be entirely blamed or held responsible for it. But there’s one difference under the current BJP regime - an attempt to hide the reality. Our documentation of the river’s state over four months shows that the government made the river look clean simply for optics around elections, without bringing any real change in the river’s pollution levels. What the holy river needs is a long-term solution that aims to target its pollutants, and not score political points.
Bibi’s ‘Comeback’: Netanyahu Defies Death Rumours On World Stage, This Time Before The Press
The Fact: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed his first in-person press conference after rumours about his death circulated widely online. Addressing journalists, Netanyahu began with a pointed response to the rumours - "I am alive, and you're all witnesses”.
The Context: The rumours began after Iran's IRGC vowed to assassinate the Israeli PM in retaliation for the killing of Iran's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. To dismiss their claims, Netanyahu appeared in a televised address on March 12. But many alleged the video showed Netanyahu with six fingers on one hand, leading to theories that the video was AI-generated.
The Peek Insight: Rumours around the assassination of a country's leader are common during conflicts like these. But Netanyahu choosing to hold this press conference and issuing a fresh warning to Iran could now shift the direction of the ongoing West Asian conflict. At the same time, it shows how even the most powerful people in the world are not immune to the web of AI-driven misinformation.
Exit Over Ethics: Why India’s Largest Private Bank’s Chairman Quit?
The Fact: The HDFC Bank's part-time chairman and independent director, Atanu Chakraborty, shockingly resigned, citing "ethical" concerns in the bank's internal practices. His exit triggered a sharp market reaction, with HDFC Bank shares dropping around 5%. The Reserve Bank of India responded to the allegations, saying there are no ‘material concerns’ regarding the bank’s governance.
The Context: Chakraborty, who is a former IAS officer and has taken up several roles in the government, has been on the HDFC board since 2021. While he did not specifically mention the ‘ethical’ issues, the bank, on its part, has clarified that there were no additional reasons for Chakraborty's exit other than those mentioned in his letter.
The Peek Insight: Atanu Chakraborty's exit shows a rare signal within the system. When a senior director like him steps down, citing ethics without details, it is bound to raise eyebrows about governance and transparency within the country's largest private sector lender.
Debunking the Myth: Are Trans Rights Being “Misused”?
The Fact: With the proposed amendments to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, the government plans to introduce a stricter, more biology-based definition of gender to prevent the "misuse" of transgender rights and benefits. But the data tells a very different story.
The Context: While, as per the 2011 Census, over 4 lakh people identify as a third gender in our country, only 35,000 have received a government-issued Transgender Identity Certificate as of 2026. The number takes further dips in the beneficiaries of welfare and rehabilitation schemes.
The Peek Insight: When the access to rights is already this limited, how can tightening the definitions solve a problem that perhaps doesn't even exist? Is the government framing its own lapses to tackle the lack of awareness, access, and implementation as "misuse," shifting the focus away from a systemic failure?
The Dhurandhar Tsunami: Ranveer Singh Starrer Rewrites Opening Day Playbook
The Fact: After the massive success of part one, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, opened to a record-breaking ₹100+ crore collection on Day 1. The movie now stands as the biggest box-office opener in Bollywood history. According to Sacnilk, the action-packed spy thriller collected around ₹103 crore on Day 1, while weekend pre-sales have already crossed ₹200 crore.
The Context: Building on the momentum of the first part of the spy thriller, which won massive appreciation for its high-octane action, the sequel has capitalized on audience anticipation. Advance bookings alone crossed ₹50 crore, with paid previews contributing significantly even before the release.
The Peek Insight: While the movie’s propaganda debate continues - with the second part even reportedly featuring a part of PM Modi’s demonetisation speech to defend the move - box office numbers make it clear that audiences are overwhelmingly appreciating the film despite the political color. The record-breaking opening indicates that the movie’s cinematic experience, star power, and spectacle may be outweighing political concerns at the box office. It also highlights a recurring trend in Indian cinema, where controversy often fuels curiosity rather than deterring viewership.
